::: NEW GOLD MOUNTAIN ::: SATELLITE PROJECT ::: Shanghai Biennale Satellite Project, September 2006

Three cubic metres of pig manure were sourced from Jansu province and used to form a mound which was adorned with flashing "snake lights" from a disco lighting store, and 33 gold piggy banks. On the opening night of the "Satellite" project, the lead singer of Shanghai thrash girl band "Happy Strings" sat in the heap wearing a pig tee shirt and a pig mask from a Chinese Opera, singing acapela love songs. The work was both performance and installation, adressing relationships between natural and cultural processes; growth and abundance and decay and decadence; fertilization and disintegration, and the significance of the pig in Chinese culture.

Pig manure, piggy banks, lights, 44 gallon drum.
